The Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles brought four talented Taiwanese artists to the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con: Shaogao (囂搞), Bird Era (鳥時代), Paula Hsu, and E.J. Su (蘇義傑). The event was held from July 25 to 28, 2024, at booth #5524.In addition, the Taiwan Academy invited U.S.-based comic artist E.J. Su to join the prestigious Artist Alley. Su participated in book signings and delivered a talk on July 26, offering attendees a deeper insight into his creative process and works.This marked a historic milestone as it was the first time original Taiwanese intellectual property (IP) was showcased at San Diego Comic-Con and the first time a Taiwanese artist was featured in the Artist Alley.

This is more than just a static display—it’s a brand story that captures the evolving trends of character IP. It positions Taiwanese character IPs as dynamic voices engaging with global markets through diverse media, striking a fresh balance between stability and innovation.
Rooted in the core mission of the Taiwan Character Brand Licensing Association, the design highlights the diversity of character IPs while fostering cultural dialogue with international markets.The bold visual design combines vibrant colors and striking segmented layouts, not only reflecting the unique personalities of each character but also symbolizing the creative synergy between Eastern and Western cultures.
The overall approach showcases the fusion of diverse characters and Taiwanese cultural identity. The works of four distinct artists, each with a strong creative voice, channel the innovative energy of the Taiwanese IP. These characters carry varied cultural narratives, underscoring the richness of Taiwan’s creative community.
